Wastewater Treatment on the Outer Banks:

CES Solutions
Colington Pointe
1600 Colington Road,
Kill Devil Hills, NC
Design Flow: 31,440 gpd
The Problem: The Colington Pointe Subdivision is a
sound front community in a beach resort area on the NC
Outer Banks. Since there is no municipal sewer in the
area the community would have to have on-site
wastewater treatment systems for each lot. With
traditional or innovative treatment systems on each lot
the engineer could estimate only 38 lots.
The Solution: With a Bioclere™ pretreatment
community system the developer was able to create 68
homesites and maximize the potential of the residential
development. The Bioclere™ Treatment System
provides a very high level of treatment and allowed the
engineer to double the soil application rate for disposal.
West Rowan Co. School
155 Ed Deal Road,
China Grove, NC
Design Flow: 8,400 gpd
The Problem: This school required an on-site septic
treatment and disposal system due to a lack of public
sewer in the area. Due to poor soils on the site it was
decided that additional treatment would be required
prior to dispersal to the soils in order to protect those on
private wells and to protect the environment.
The Solution: A Bioclere™ Treatment System
consisting of two Bioclere units in series was proposed
to reduce the organic and nitrogen loading to the soils.
Because school systems present a very difficult
wastewater strength a chemical feed system was
proposed to supplement the carbon food source and to
manage the alkalinity of the wastewater being treated.
Aquapoint design engineers evaluated the source
wastewater and proposed an engineered solution to
treat the wastewater to a very high treatment standard.
Nags Head Inn
4701 S. Va. Dare Tr.,
Nags Head, NC
Design Flow: 13,500 gpd
The Problem: The Nags Head Inn is an oceanfront
hotel in a beach resort area with an existing carbon steel
traditional wastewater treatment plant that was in need
of replacement due to the physical condition of the
tankage. The existing low pressure pipe drainfield was
in good condition and could be used with no modification
with the same pre-treatment standard.
The Solution: The engineer selected the Bioclere™
Treatment System for the replacement because the
fiberglass construction and PVC media would hold up
well in the tough oceanfront environment. The
Aquapoint engineers proposed two Bioclere™ units in
series to achieve the same treatment levels as the
extended aeration treatment plant had provided. As a
benefit the electrical cost of operating the system has
decreased dramatically.
